monitor randomly turns off
« on: June 19, 2006, 06:56:25 PM »
ok i know i've been griping alot about my system but joe seems to be helping me alot with fixing my system until i get the money to send the memory off....here is my newest problem

my monitor randomly turns off and no matter how much i turn it on or off it doesn't go back on. and moving my mouse doesn't work either...the only thing that seems to work is rebooting my whole system, hence losing whatever i was working on at the time.

any suggestions?

Are you sure you didn't just click on the "turn off" button and forget about it?

Yer monitor might be bad or something. I had to replace mine last month because it went off...forever. :(

Might be, or the power cable on it is damaged.

Probably best if you get a new monitor... is there a warranty on it, by any chance?

Well, get yourself a new monitor and see how it works...

I have the same problem, the flatscreen I use randomly turns on and off, it's really infuriating. Happens on some games more than others though(Jedi Academy, but not Call of Duty, even though they both use the Quake 3 Arena engine)

 Most moniters will shut themselves off once they are no longer recieving data.  Another thing to check is your "Power Options" (found in your control panel) ... turn off all power schemes.

 If the problem persists ... check the cable running from your monitor to your computer.  Are there any places where the cable makes a tight bend?  If so, adjust the position of your monitor/pc so that the cable is "straighter".  Does the cable seem to have a "crease" in it?  Does wriggling the cable (toward the base of the monitor) affect the picture at all?

Hah! At least this is starting look more like Tech Support does normally.

No worries Zodiac, you've joined the thousands of others that have called and didn't realize that "check the connections" meant to see if they're loose, and not just if they're unplugged.
