I haven't seen any post-victory gloating yet. I watched Trump's victory speech, and he was surprisingly gracious to Hillary, saying that she "fought very hard" in the Presidential race and asking us to thank her for her service (if you could call it "service," IMHO) as Secretary of State. I had to do a double-take, considering how savagely he was ripping into Hillary over the past year. "Wait a minute. Is this the same Donald Trump I voted for? He's being nice to Hillary! What's going on here?"
The way I see it, eight miserable years of Obama, eight years of Dubya's utter incompetence and eight terrorist-friendly years of Billy Blue-Dress have taught us quite profoundly that the common people can't trust career politicians to repair the damage that was inflicted by career politicians. We need a non-politician -- outside the political machine and beholden to no one -- to do that. 36 years ago, our non-politician was Ronald Reagan, and look at what he accomplished: unmaking all of Jimmy Carter's bungling, beating Muammar Gadhafi and his terrorists into submission, working with Russia to tear down the Berlin Wall and end the Cold War, and so on.
If Ronald Reagan can become an iconic President, Donald Trump can become an iconic President. In this, I have unswerving faith. And I'm looking forward to what 2017 will bring!
