Stirring up interest again
« on: April 29, 2014, 08:07:50 PM »
So, here we are again. We've got a server that refuses to be put down, with the odd folk coming in once in a while to see how things are going. Except... there's no one there, not even me.

After catching Dylan and Darkzealot on the server, the idea of creating some interest in the server came up. Last year, over the summer, we had a decent number (close to 10!) of people playing. There was especially a good concentration for at least two weeks at the time, too. Even if it was a bit of a fluke, the number was up there and people enjoyed each other's company, which kept things going for a bit.

I take a week's break due to loss of creativity and serious business, and... empty. In fact, a year has passed, and the server has been completely empty.

So, what do we do?

I'm thinking something akin to our old server party, though perhaps not themed as a mere party where we just play vampire and what not. A time for us to get together, do some RP, maybe get something to happen (Maybe even a big one, like griefing ol' Luskan). It doesn't have to be fancy, but something that'll have old players wanting to log in and meet up again at least that day. After all, the biggest problem we're having is recursive, with people leaving due to having 0 players to interact with.

Once we've got an idea of what we want to do, if anything elaborate, we need to pick a time. Say, this or next weekend (I'm thinking next week's end, which is after my finals have ended for the semester).

Finally, we need to get the word out. I know quite a few of you folks use Facebook and follow the LotN group there, but we should also spread the word to interested parties. E-mail, Skype, Steam, phone, whatever. If folks can't make it quite then, hopefully we'll have enough people sticking around long enough to perpetuate the interest a bit more.

I'd like to hear some thoughts and insight onto this before we start doing this.

All right. It's finals week here at my university, and we've got the summer time ahead of us. I was thinking about doing it this Saturday since I'd have taken my last two exams and be free to play, though Darkie suggested we give it more time so that more people are aware of this. So, weekend after this one will do.

Thus, without further ado, I announce the first time and date we should do this: Saturday, May 17th, 2014 at 2:00 PM EDT (That's 6:00 PM UTC). Thankfully, the internet makes converting so much easier. Check this out if you want to see the time in your area.

I'm also thinking about setting up an IRC meeting or something *this* weekend at the same time, in case anyone wants to discuss this or anything else live. Thoughts?

I most likely can't make it that weekend, since my workplace is going stocktake.

What we can do, however, is make it a multiple weekend event! Have the idea going for a few weekends, rather than just one. Encourage people to show up when they can, because obviously, we're all in different countries and the chances of EVERYBODY being free for a significant period of time, all simultaneously, is not particularly high.

So three weekends, folks. That's my two pennies.

I like that idea quite a bit. I remember missing a few events myself since I've had to be out for those times myself. This is more for trying to get some folks on the server than a specific one-off event, so I don't see there being a problem with planning a recurring day on the weekend.

So, should we do one this weekend as well? That would be May 10th, 17th, and 24th on Saturday. I threw in a starting time so people had a good idea as to when folks might be on, but people can start as early as that want. Just let us know!

I saw this pop up on my Facebook feed a couple of days ago.  I've actually been thinking about NWN and the old LOTN lately and wouldn't mind a blast from the past sort of moment.  Besides, Shani's been away from the Neverwinter Wood and has been cruising through Kryta a lot lately, so it'll be nice to have a bit of time in some familiar stomping grounds.

I might even attempt to make a repilca of Shani's armour from GW2 (sans the pistols, mind you).

As for the when, I'm good for any weekend to show up (at least for the next few weeks that I know of).  Should that change, I'll leave a message here.

I can be there the 10th, and the 25th. I'll be in Chicago on the 17th for Anime Central.

All those dates sound good to me, I'll try and get Fealhach and Caligad on board too.

I'll try and be there at the same time, but alas, family plans just sprung up. I'll still be able to get on a little later, within the hour if I'm late. I haven't forgotten!

EDIT: I should stress that the plans are for our morning hours, so there's a chance I'll make it on time.

Wednesday has passed, and Saturday's creeping up again! Hopefully we can get a few more folks this time, since schedules and a sudden IP change (due to some hardware crash) hindered log ins that day. If there's confusion about the server being down, let us know so we can take a look.

I'm shooting for the whole day, but maybe we can get folks on around 2:00 PM EDT (6:00 PM UTC)?

Three of us have made plans for a NWN night, assuming Caligad has installed the game on his new laptop.

Well, today's the day again. Hopefully we'll get more folks on today. 2 hours and 30 minutes to go!

EDIT: 50 minutes! The IP is "83.227.20.108" in case you need it.
