NWN Sound Problems
« on: October 03, 2009, 01:35:31 AM »
I installed NWN yesterday and it appears to crash whenever a soundset is used.  So I can't finish creating a character or whenever someone does a battlecry I crash...

Tried different compatability modes and starting the program as administrator.
I have done two critical rebuilds to no avail :(

I have only been able to fix it by disabling sounds altogether.

Issue with the sound drivers?

Getting random crashes during gameplay too :( I think I may try just re-installing.

Perhaps. If that doesn't work, follow these instructions.

1: Find out who the closest microsoft employee is
2: Go to the shop and buy all neccessary ingredients for a cake
3: Negotiate transpot to his/her house
4: Throw the eggs at them.

Critical Rebuilds dont usually work, try reinstalling alltogether.

Yeah, Critical Rebuilds are usually only used to patch up a game to the latest version than to do a full fixing (Thanks, Talie). The ingame files you're having a problem with wouldn't really be patched by it.

Do the reinstall, then tell us if it fixed anything or not.

Also, does the crash come up with an error? Access violation? Memory could not be read?

Did you run all of the installers in computability mode? I got diablo 2 working and if I could get that to run I know NWN should.

Don't get any real errors.  Windows 7 just says its looking for resolutions but can't find any.  I mentioned the critical rebuild because when I tried to update it originally it told me there was files messed up and I needed to rebuild.

I'm going to try installing with an iso as I'm worried it may be the cracks I have in the original CDs.  Silly bioware.

I had weird stuff with my audio in NWN. It's always been a problem for me, actually. I went into Sound Options, turned off all the checkboxes, then went to Advanced Sound Options and chose Miles Fast 2D Positional Audio. That makes it all work great for me.

A re-install worked fine :) Looks like something went terrible wrong.  When I tried to uninstall it said it was a bad install.. had to delete the registry manually.
