Now -this- is a game I'm looking forward to, despite it being a great RPG from one company being handed to another (From Black Isle to Bethesda). I trust they'll do great, considering they've done The Elder Scrolls series.

Reading the articles on the game, I've noted the game appears rather Oblivion-esque, but have read it's similar to the original Fallout combat system (Aimed Shots use Action Points like before). Traits do not exist anymore, but have been rolled up into perks, meaning I'm gonna have to get Bloody Mess at level 3. -le sigh-

I can live two levels without blowing someone in half with a Red Ryder BB Gun, though. -shifty eyes-

-finds his Fallout 2 CDs and runs off to roll up a new character-

I need to change my pants.
Crom, I have never prayed to you before. I have no tongue for it. No one, not even you, will remember if we were good men or bad. Why we fought, or why we died. All that matters is that two stood against many. That's what's important! Valor pleases you, Crom... so grant me one request. Grant me revenge! And if you do not listen, then to HELL with you!

In response, GameTap is making the first Fallout available on their service.  I never owned it and so never got to give the series the attention it deserved.  (Though I do own Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura, its fantasy equivalent.)  So, while I won't have anything to run 3 when it hits shelves, I'll be taking this chance to play the original.

Oh, Arcanum was awesome.  I remember that game very well.

I may also take this time to get into the first Fallout.

Wouldn't say half life quality, but still very good.  It's completely turned based and the battles can get to be long/tedious and the AI leaves much to be desired, but the combat is still alot of fun.

For atmosphere it is pretty tough to beat.  Puts you in a sort of Mad Max type of post apocalyptic world.  Has great ambient music and sound effects, some of which have been retained and you can hear in the trailer I think.

But ultimately it is old school turn based, not more of a shooter which Fallout3 looks to be, so if you don't like that then don't bother.

In both Acranum and the Fallout games, the most fun you could have was not playing the game.  I typically spent my time making the most awkward characters and avoiding the main plot like it had the plague.  I've heard people claim to beat Fallout 2 without their character killing a single person (either by using diplomacy/skills, or getting NPCs or sentry guns to do the work for them).  They're very much sandbox games which let you just wander off and play it your way.  And side quests as far as the eye can see.

Yes, in the Fallout games, you can take a completely diplomatic approach to beat the game. Both 1 & 2 (Mostly for speed runs, check YouTube). Fallout Tactics, well... that one's completely on combat than anything. Forget the main quest, honestly. There's SPECIAL encounters to find within the wastelands! (Arthur and his knights, anyone?)

The only problem regarding the first Fallout game: The time limit.

There's two (Or one, since the patch turns the later one into 13 YEARS), but one I'll mention: Find the Water Chip. Or else, within 150 days, Vault 13's a goner and it ends.

Fallout 2 doesn't really have a time limit, unless you count specific quests. So, here, I'm off driving my Highwayman wherever I please. >.>

Ok, it's awesome.  The x-box 360 is dropping to 199$ now, so I might actually buy one to play F3 and mass effect.  The pc required to play F3 well is insane.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I already need to upgrade Zodi's computer more so she can play Sims 3 when it comes out. Not to mention just to make it run better in the first place.
