Ok now Im having more than a connection problem. Even when I load a character generator the game lags as well as flashes like a broken TV. After that the characters either fly or roll off the screen into oblivion. The specs for my computer are as follows:
Radeon X1300
nVidea GeForce 6100 SM motherboard
AMD Dual Core 4800 2.7 ghz processor
4 gigs of DDR2 ram
And im running Windows XP Pro w/ Service Pack 3

 Open nwnplayer.ini
 Find the [Game Options] section
 Set the entry for "Client CPU Affinity" to 1 (if the entry isn't there, add it)
 Save and exit
 Sacrifice a chicken to the bitgods
 Try running the game again

I suffer the same problem, apparently its a clash between NWN and the graphics card. They dont support eachother very well. I just run on good old 800x600 and the lowest settings possible. That delays it so that i only restart computer every hour, usually two. If i alt+tab too much it tends to hasten it.
I use the work-around that was available on bioware forums or the game doesn't run at all. I dont think there's a fix to it, maybe whenever 1.69 (that the one?) comes out... Hopefully.
*EDIT* Or listen to our saviour, i hope this works, its really a pain in the ass.

I'm gonna do that too. I don't have any extreme problems like yours, but I run on a laptop now and it's just overall pretty crappy.

Didn't seem to work for me, did it work for either of you?
I put it in as: Client CPU Affinity=1
Should it be ClientCPUAffinity=1?

I already had a line that said Client CPU Affinity=-1, I just changed it to 1. I don't notice a difference, but my problems are just general things like occassional choppy movement that are hard to actually notice a change in.

I found changing it from -1 to 1 made the game seem choppier. Went back to -1, and the game smoothed out. That is a very relative thing, mind you, as I have a decent amount of chop as it is.

If you have a single-core processor, then the Client CPU Affinity setting should make no difference to you. You should leave it set to -1 or 0.
nVidia seems to have a problem in their drivers when a single app switches cores that use its OpenGL support. That's why locking the game to a single CPU (core) prevents this. I think.
I know Outcast said he's got an ATI card, but I thought it was worth a try for him.
For other video weirdness, I suggest you try updating to the latest drivers for your card. nVidia especially, as there was a series of drivers they released over several months that just completely screwed NWN. The latest ones (175.16 or later) seem to run fabulously, though.

Mine is dual core, but I think my computer is just at its limit. It's a crappy laptop for gaming with an onboard graphics card. I did update my driver a few weeks back and it made a -huuuuge- difference (from unplayable to playable basically).
