Cien found a "Rare 'Shroom" the other day ... but the darn bounty agent confiscated it from her when she tried to turn in a different bounty item :(

Player's Corner / Character Conflict
« on: July 05, 2006, 06:25:05 AM »
I think the short version of Pink's reply (above) would be that the problem emerges from selfish play (or player attitudes) within an imbalanced game world.  Please correct me if that was/is not an intentional implication.

If so, I do not agree that such an inference applies to everyone.  At the same time; however, neither would I make any claim that we are all selfless players.  Given the inherent impersonal quality of internet gaming, we are [as a whole] a community of strangers (exceptions certainly exist within various groups ... as is the case within any community ... I quote the cliché, "Birds of feather flock together.").

....

What I find curious is that conflict occurs naturally within ~99% of all conversations (though a good percentage of it remains internal, never to be vocalized directly ... perhaps negative emotion  may bleed all around the injuring issue without ever addressing it directly; thus, the wound fails to heal).  It seems to me that conflict should occur naturally and without effort.

Perhaps it does ... oocly ... perhaps it is this conflict that prevents the desired IC player conflict which this thread seeks to revigorate.

I will say this, IC conflict requires a fair amount of coordination OOC.  For some of us, OOC conflict may interrupt this coordination; for others, something else may be getting in the way of OOC communication.  For me, it is that I am unable to play very often (I average roughly less than 15 hours per week ... I think that's a generous estimation).

In order to roleplay an ongoing conflict between any two characters (and especially of conflict between any two groups of PCs), OOC communication is not only vital, it is the key to continuous pleasure and enjoyment for all parties.

In short, I give the answer that has been given time and time again, "Play responsibly:  be civil, be kind, be understanding of one another's points-of-view. Respect your fellow players."

AND

What can we do to improve communication?

I've long been a proponent of player guilds as a means to instigate and prolong PC conflict.

... but you can walk under a bridge ... so long as no one can walk over the bridge ...

Quote
Another question from the community was related to over and under situations. While it isn't possible to have a bridge where people can walk both under and over at the same time, Josh did say it would be possible to allow people to walk under a bridge if the bridge was set up as part of the environment. When you set parts of your level as an "environment object" type, they are removed from the walkmesh and basically you can simply [walk] through them as if they didn't exist, however by putting the bridge out of their reach, both in height and by not allowing them to cross, then this type of set up shouldn't be a problem at all.

That's a nice little feature all around ....

General Discussion / World Cup

Brazil / France ... such a great match.  France outplayed Brazil from the start, they certainly deserved that win.  I'm really dissappointed how Brazil kept trying to get Ronaldo in for a scoring opportunity during the first the half ... Ronaldo came up short each time.  Very upsetting ... perhaps, overconfidence reared up to bite them in the arse this time.  France wins; they played better.

Now that all my teams are out, I turn to France to take home the cup.  Go France!

Technical Support / RAM Memory screwed my computer
« on: July 01, 2006, 05:33:41 AM »
Most memory modules come with at least a 90 warranty, if not a Lifetime Warranty.  If the problems persist, an easy solution my be to exchange the chips straight up before the warranty expires.  If the problem continues after that ....  8)

Have you heard of Galen Butler (Shakatura), Airyn?  Some of his work has a similar style as what you've shown here.  You might enjoy this link if you've not seen any of his work.

I almost always have to stop everything--let go of keyboard & mouse--for a few moments until the umbrella eventually makes it into the upright position.  Sometimes a studder-step or two will do the trick (tap "w", wait, "w", wait ... okay).

Don't buy EVGA, their customer support really let me down when my card had melt down 2 weeks before the warranty expired.  They offered me nothing but a several headaches:  no replacement, no reimbersement, not even sympathy.  EVGA, you lose.

Energy may flush;
stability may crumple.
But life wavers on like a precious opal,
shifting through shades in a iridescent rush.

Orange into red,
green into blue;
every glimmer is precious, regardless of hue.
Avowed by contrast, the shimmers may be admired.
