Events / Kattze's Campaign Experiment
« on: February 21, 2012, 04:46:23 AM »
I'm trying something new.  The idea revolves around characters that are only used for a weekly quest.  Think Baldur's Gate.  Think Icewind Dale.  We create a balanced party, have them start at level 2 and see where the adventure takes them!  After a couple of months, when/if we believe the story is over we can have them end up in the regular neverwinter wood (Any illegal items removed).

Players attending will be able to visit places not possible on LOTNs regular world. The Anauroch desert, Icewind dale's snow covered mountains, the far east? Sure!  Like RPGs the characters will have a larger role in the story, fate often resting on their shoulders.  I can't decide on that until I gauge interest and people pick characters.

If you feel you can make a quest every Sunday night around 7 or 8pm EST please PM me the following:
NOTE: I'm looking for a balanced party so I will update this if classes are taken.

Bug Reports / Bard Hall

Chana Blake has bad pathing issues with a book case (stuck).  This cause CPU spikes for the server!

Cloak of the Bards - +10 perform with +2 CHA is really good for a store bought item!  Maybe hit with the nerfbat.  I thought we limited to +5 skill items but I could be wrong.
Singing Rapier - Maybe take off the Slashing 1 damage since sonic is hard to resist? Seems really good also.  I could be nitpicking...

Westing Lokk Reclaimed

A party of adventurers has stormed the blighted Westing Lokk Keep, successfully vanquishing the evil walking dead within.  Though it was difficult to walk the treacherous halls which threatened to collapse atop them, the party successfully reached the terrifying structure on the upper floor which had served as a portal to bring fiendish beings into the realm.

The huge crystal which had served as a power conduit for the summoning portal was shattered with a single spell from the party, forever sealing the portal from any chance of reopening.  Word has since spread that the amnesiac mist which thwarted many attempts to reclaim the keep was in fact emanating from a strange beast at the portal.  Many-starred Cloak members have retrieved the carcass and are examining the creature for evidence of its origins and have hopes of developing an antidote for the many guards suffering memory loss and madness from the mist.

But what is to happen to Westing Lokk? With much of the keep in ruins, crumbing and unstable, word is spreading that it may be sold off to the highest bidder instead of raising taxes to pay for its restoration.

Party of Five

Word has spread throughout the taverns that a group of five seasoned adventurers have signed on to restore the blighted Westing Lokk castle, rumored to house all sorts of undead creatures.  Previous attempts by the Neverwintan guard to seize control have failed.  Many never returned, some returned as drooling men incapable of speech and others can be seen walking the grounds of Westing Lokk as walking dead.

The party's leader, Rose, has been frequenting The Everlasting Flagon and denies that she will be taking any of the 75,000 reward offered by Neverwinter City.  Locals now wonder where her motivation lies...

News / ADVENTURE! DANGER! A TALE TO REMEMBER! 75,000 GOLD REWARD!
« on: February 06, 2012, 10:43:17 PM »
A flyer has been nailed to the Mercenary Guild noticeboard within Neverwinter City.  Mercenaries begin talking about the vague offer and what it might involve.  Soon word spreads to the taverns, up the coast, and into the Woods.  You decide to trek to Neverwinter City and take a look at the flyer yourself.

ADVENTURE! DANGER! A TALE TO REMEMBER! 75,000 GOLD REWARD!

Interested parties are to meet at The Everlasting Flagon on the 10th night of Ches to learn the details.  Ask the bartender to see Rose.
Bring all your adventuring gear to be evaluated as suitable for the task!

Events / Multi-session quest interest
« on: January 12, 2012, 02:25:58 AM »
I'm going to do a story, about 4 installations over the course of a month.  Most likely on saturday afternoon/evening (American EST) and would like to gauge interest.

Please post if you want to join, and what level range you would prefer it to be targeted for.  This is important due to the amount of dungeoneering involved! (is that a word? it is now!)

Player's Corner / Want to know what it felt like DMing on LOTN?
« on: December 16, 2011, 02:33:49 AM »
DMing quests on LOTN was sometimes challenging in unexpected ways.  Players could be creative and sometimes I couldn't help but indulge their ideas just so I could see what would happen.

I was reading a D&D thread on reddit and it reminded me of LOTN and also had me rolling in laughter:

Quote
The paladin then KNEELS DOWN in the middle of battle, and begins making nature checks to use his flint and steel to light the oil. After 2 turns of his health getting destroyed from the goblins exploiting the combat advantage he willingly gave them, he barely squeaks by the nature DC the DM set, causing the oil to flare up just slightly, lighting the trail to the barrel, igniting his beard on the way.

Player's Corner / DM & players thoughts on the Spellplague?
« on: April 05, 2011, 09:59:02 PM »
I noticed our calendar is sitting at 1392DR, over a decade past when the Spellplague was meant to occur.  Do we plan on rolling with the lore and lighting the skies with blue fire or creating our own future?

Do you think the effects would be a positive or negative change to the server?  There are some side effects, depending on whether LOTN considers changing to spellplague era or post-spellplague

Spellplague:
No arcane magic
Chaos
Many magical/enchanted equipment rendered useless, but artifacts/items of power remain untouched
Destruction of major cities & altered world
Famine & general lack of supplies
Some characters disfigured by the Weave's burning

Post-Spellplague:
Arcane magic harnessed outside of the weave, leading to possibly dangerous groups of mages.  Could mages become hated and untrusted like the Dragon Age world?
New type of elves introduced
Death of some major deities
Many characters may have died in the years following the spellplague due to age.
Rebuilding of cities, more people in need of help (hint hint)

Lich vanquished!

Today the adventurers of Neverwinter Wood retrieved the lich's phylactery from within the cursed mine underneath camp, but no-one is speaking about what had to be done in order to reclaim it.  With Garret of Lathander's help, and ultimate sacrifice, the phylactery was destroyed and the heroes were able to kill the lich.

Meanwhile the Wood was overrun by lycanthropes, which the druids and elves of the forest held at bay until morning.  Camp life has returned to normal for now but no-one knows whether this nightmare is over or if it's only just begun.

Player's Corner / Have a retired player who wants to fill a job opening?
« on: January 06, 2011, 05:11:14 AM »
Chaney has decided to leave camp soon and needs a replacement.  Do you have a character you retired, has an interesting personality, and able to fend off relentless badger attacks?

I'm not sure how much interest this will get but it's worth a shot!

News / Camp lodge burns to the ground

Camp lodge burns to the ground

Volothamp's lodge in the Neverwinter encampment was set alight yesterday, the flames burning so quickly there was no hope of saving it.  The druids of the wood stood and watched, containing the fire from spreading but not willing to save the building.   It's suspected the druids were not happy with Volothamp and it was their revenge, but others say the fire was deliberately lit by Sharrans.

The merchants have rallied together and constructed a tent in its place but are worried if this is only the beginning of a darker time...
