GZA - "The Spark"
]From the mind, thought produced a speck of light
It was infinitely hot, so extremely bright
Within the center of this great shining
There was enormous energy - it was expanding in great timing
Within this fireball was all of space
Special place with information encased
One of infinite beginnings this cosmic clock was ticking
And allowed space to float while it was spinning
All that you see around us
Sun, the Moon and stars - millions of worlds that astound us
The universe in size is hard to fathom
When composed in a region small as a single atom
One billionth the size the point of a pen
Microscopic, on a macro level within
And unfurled the swirling cloud of light
A star city, a galaxy, with all its might
Within the blinking of an eye expanded beyond comprehension
Then a fraction of a second a new dimension
At a marble size but very unstable
In time it would come with the periodic table
Space was expanding faster than light speed
Moving at the speed only thought can exceed
A picosecond after The Big Bang, music of the spheres
Before the ears, the universes now sang
Small enough to fit in your hand, a nanosecond later
It was the size of Mars and becoming greater
Fraction of the second later - 80 times the size of Earth
Fastest growing infant since its time of birth.

[Chorus]
Step into a world of black holes, quasars
Galaxies, supernovas, bright stars
A spectrum of light beams
Images beyond your wildest dreams

[Verse 2]
Still expanding but it didn't contain matter
Just pure energy that was spinning within the batter
But mass and energy are interchangeable
Convert those particles, not to name a few
Matter and antimatter, the arch-rival
Met, obliterated each other for survival
A war zone, a battle to the death
But as long as there's life and breath there's one remaining left
But an imbalance caused particles to vibrate
Away from the galactic center at high rates
So fast becoming a liquid
And it would be 300,000 years before it dripped it
Despite being perfect, it was in turmoil
Then it would fall back under pressure, recoil
Subatomic particles smashed into each other
Continuous energy years before discovered
Then it slowed down and began to bond
Creating atoms - building blocks of matter and beyond
It was now eight times the size of the solar system
Distance, thorough measurements, I enlist them
Sixty billion miles in diameter
Temperature of seventeen trillion Fahrenheit to damage ya
And it was only a millionth of a second old
And it would be another million years before turning cold

[Chorus]
Step into a world of black holes, quasars
Galaxies, supernovas, bright stars
A spectrum of light beams
Images beyond your wildest dreams

I think it's up ok, people have been on it. Tho Tails had mentioned they put an older version up by mistake. Come onto the Discord channel, a lot of people hang there. Should be able to get the UP there if needed.

PANTERA - CEMETERY GATES
Quote
Reverend, Reverend
Is this a conspiracy?
Crucified for no sins
No revenge beneath me
Lost within my plans for life
It all seems so unreal
I'm a man cut in half in this world

Left in my misery
The reverend he turned to me
Without a tear in his eyes
It's nothing new for him to see
I didn't ask him why
I will remember
The love our souls had sworn to make
Now I watch the falling rain
All my mind can see
Now is your...
Well I guess
You took my youth
I gave it all away
Like the birth of a
New-found joy
This love would end in rage
And when she died
I couldn't cry
The pride within my soul
You left me incomplete
All alone as the

Memories now unfold.
Believe the word
I will unlock my door
And pass the
Cemetery gates
Sometimes when I'm alone
I wonder aloud
If you're watching over me
Some place far abound
I must reverse my life
I can't live in the past
Then set my soul free

Belong to me at last
Through all those
Complex years
I thought I was alone
I didn't care to look around
And make this world my own
And when she died
I should've cried and spared myself some pain...
Left me incomplete

All alone as the memories still remain
The way we were
The chance to save my soul
And my concern is now in vain
Believe the word
I will unlock my door

And pass the cemetery
Gates
(SOLO)
The way we where
The Chance to save my soul
And my concern is now in vain
Believe the word
I will unlock my door
And pass the cemetery
Gates
(guitar solo)
GATES!!!
(guitar solo)
GAAAATEEEESSSS!!!!!!
(ending guitar solo)

Hi
About Palladium we did survive for quite some time but some issues among the older staff made it explode and most people left, i was one of the last that took over to help running it to the end, we even made a good atempt to remake it into nwn2, got the World up for testing but it all ended as we got to few to handle it.  to bad really it looked great.
Still sad about the amount of hours spent for nothing lol

Alkmaar even made a great perofmace as dm :)

Aye, that sounds quite familiar - we had alot of discussion on here back in the day when NWN2 came out, but it fizzled out. To be honest i don't think anyone desired to move to nwn2 beyond a graphical overhaul and i feel these instrinct were right. To this day NWN1 has always had at least double the playerbase as NWN2, so i feel as though everyones instincts were spot on for that game.

PS: Are you using our server short-cut on the forums to log in? It isn't updated atm. You'll need to goto internet games and just join Legacy of the North the old fashion way. :P

I was just curious if the Palladium server kept ticking. It's hard to see how many servers survived the master servers removal. We're been fortunate here to have a few people willing to take the reigns, even through years of inactivity. Blessed are we, for sure. :)

I came around the end of Magic Bubble when they did the character wipes. Gossamer Faith happened to find me in one of the chat rooms as i was waiting for my old server to reboot. I'd heard the stories of TMB though, power-wise. I'd dropped in a couple times and was a little overwhelmed by the stuff going down in camp and didn't stick around.

Didn't know about the split off that made Palladium. Did they manage to survive the last bunch of years? I wondered would we even see any TMB vets with the release of EE. I don't think i ever met Perif, or it was extremely early on for me when he passed the server on. I wonder if he's ever looked to see if what he started is stick marching on all these years later.

Thanks to the server admins and DMs for keeping this alive all these years.

+1

You should drop into the Discord channel, its been quite active since EE being released. Alot of people working in toolset to give the place a makeover for a return of serverlists. :) I only heard about EE being out on saturday, so i get the feeling alot of people haven't realized this came out, so i reckon we'll be due more old timers over the next while - aswell as the new players that have been dropping by. Logged into 10 players on the server list night. :D

Oh, i just noticed, was Palladium the name of the server before the Magic Bubble? I wondered if that was the only name.

Sorry to disappoint but the original name of Legacy of the North was The Magic Bubble. I don't believe it had any other names previous to that.

Welcome to Lotn all the same. I only just realized that EE came out today so its been a blast from the past that's sore sure. A couple of crashes here and there but otherwise a smooth transition.  :D

I watched the stream today and made several notes about it on our Discord. I'll share it here.

  • Nearly everything should be easily ported over from NWN to NWN:EE. I'll check it if I can get my hands on it early.
  • New master server.
  • Hardcoded stuff won't be so hardcoded anymore, meaning we could possibly change feats and skills how we see fit.
  • On the plus side, we WILL have server listings once again!
  • There will be a GOG release.
  • 64-bit client.
  • Niv is on the dev team, as well as a staffer from Arelith that is pushing to get an auto-downloader enabled. This means if (I stress "if" strongly here) we decide on adding some haks to add in new classes, we won't need to dig around everywhere for them.

Awesome. I think the serverlist alone is worth the purchase at this point.

Not in the first area, but in the second part i thought there was 2-3 of them. Hard to remember now tho'. A shame i could never apply myself to scripting, i'd a ton of ideas i wanted to apply to different areas. I was fortunate enough that a few of our scripters spared the time to make me a few.

I don't think people loved moth for making me the underwater script tho' :D That underwater route to Lake Stillness was suppose to be punishment for not bringing a rogue along but i fear it did little more than annoy people, but meh - no regrets. :) It came back to bite me on the ass for sure, i tried to solo Lake Stillness with Borcha (lvl 25 barb) and only managed to make it to the front door before death. Serves me right as i aimed to make the area difficult for solo players to encourage party-venturing. On a quiet server that kind of loses its relevance lol.

Aye, I remember making those guys ages ago - they have massively gimped HP to make certain they die in that first encounter. That lower level was suppose to be a kind of besieged area. Where the sandbags and fortifications are the spawn points are designed for it. No idea why it ever got placed at the ladder behind it. I ripped off the soulless from the old bungie myth games except they have bows rather than javelins :p Pretty fun area to make overall. I seen the cultists finally got a proper voice set too :D

Lol, i think more than few people have used his cave as a holiday resort at a minimum. I wonder why he'd ever thought putting a sign up would ever do anything but attract more attention?

I reckon the area survived being scrapped only due to other people getting more use out of it than me. :D

Player Requests / Re: A Big Bag of Mini-Suggestion-Ideas

Quote
2)  Some kind of use for lumps of Adamantine.

Guess this would be the same as the dragon scales we get from Vison. It'd be nice to exchange these for a powerful crafted item.

Quote
3)  One or more delivery-quest-giving NPCs.

I think alot of times in the past quests ended up being easily exploitable to farm XP with minimum effort. This is an idea i'd like to expand on. If the server is going to remain so quiet it may be wise to start converting it to allow for single-player adventuring. Quests would be a good way to handle this, plus it'll be engaging to the player.

Quote
7)  More uses for rope items.

Funny enough i'd been adding this into my current project. I'd always liked the idea of having RP items around for players to get creative with. I'm gonna try and add shortcuts or hidden chests that are accessible only through ropes. Even with my limited scripting abilities it shouldn't be too difficult for this.

Quote
9)  More areas and/or hiding spots for wanted criminals (ie. the harpy lair, the wyverns' reach, the spider cave and its House Forgotten piece of the Underdark, the Fallen Tower cellar, etc.).

Trying to figure out how this is done. Can't find the tags necessary for criminals to spawn at. It shouldn't be too difficult to add more of these in.

Quote
12) Actual names for Mirabar's citizens, just like Luskan and Neverwinter have.

Another thing i was trying to figure out lol. It's damn time consuming making unique NPCs for entire cities, but i think this may be randomized to an extent. Along with their random dialogues. If anyone knows the script used for this feel free to PM/reply and let me know so i can apply it.

Quote
15) Areas all the way south to Waterdeep.
16) Areas all the way north to the Spine of the World, Icewind Dale or the Ten Towns.

Can't help with Waterdeep, but the new Zhentil Keep expands north into the ruins and close to Dragonspire Mountain. From there it could go into the Tortured Lands & Spine of the World beyond it. The current Zhentil Keep was made a long long time ago so it's geography is a little out-of-whack with the world, but i think most people have politely ignored that. :D

Once these new areas are added that i've built we'll beable to get a better grasp of how little/more can added to the server without removal of other areas. I think we're running into memory issues at this stage but that really isn't my area of expertise. I've been toying with ideas to save server resources but i'm not sure what is a realistic course of action.

Quote
17)  A big email blast to bring some of our old players back.

Something to look into aswell :) It's gotten real difficult to get in touch with people now with most of the old chat programs dead. Most people havent made the progression to Discord yet. I think it'd be best to hold this around some events. I'd be happy to host some when the time is right. I'm currently trying to fix my brother & house mates PCs so they can join us aswell. I may beable to rope in a few other IRL friends just to bolster numbers. Once there's a couple people hanging around the server we may get more logging on.

Quote
8)  Linking up with Skywing's Master Server replacement to bring in some new blood.

Could you explain what this is to me? Is it like the NWN server list website i find on google? What would it take to be on their server list? And would it be better to wait until we get a few people logging on more frequently so new blood have more than an empty server to run around in?

Quote
23)  More places for Niccolo to wander (Lipali Isle, Luskan, the old Guild of Shadows, that rope-accessible safe area way down in the Tower of Doom, Myrkul's temple inside the Old Tomb, Niccolo's own house...), with corresponding quips from his wife.

Niccolo is Moffs wee brain child so he'd need to let me know how to add more waypoints in with new bits of dialogue from his wife and then i could do it. :D

Quote
24)  Add Epic-only areas, merchants and/or other features to the Rogues Guild, the Many-Starred Cloak, the Bards Guild, the Arcane Archers Guild and/or any other guilds that haven't kept up with the Mercenary Guild.

Not sure if you mean epic-level dungeons or factions/guilds. This new area i'll be adding should scratch the epic-itch. Most of it is epic-level orientated, but it goes from level 12-25 in full. The main issue here being my monsters are custom-made to be better handling pre-buffed groups of adventurers. I can't see a solo player (even epic) being able to handle these areas.

Quote
27)  Create factions for Clerics and/or Druids, possibly something to do with Tyr's Hall of Justice, the House of Pleasure and Pain, Lathander's temple, Luskan's temples to Auril and Umberlee, Myrkul's temple or Shirthoria's manor.

I could add this no problems, but i'm not exactly sure what approach to take with factions. Just give them unique items/shops? NPCs? Quests?

The new Zhentil Keep will have a temple to Bane, Loviatar, Tymora, Tempus, The Red Knight... There's 1 or 2 others i'm forgetting right now. Right now they offer nothing but a temple area & NPC. As for what perks to give this it's anybodys guess. I'd love the idea of hiring mercenarys to these guilds for the players stuck in solo-crawling, but i don't know how easy that would be to implement. Maybe there's something on the nwvaults to allow for it.

Quote
30)  Alternate colorful loot.  Instead of ale and wine to give our beasties a splash of character, how about random nitnoid things like coral earrings, broken helmets, ivory statuettes, maps, crude sketches and the like?  It would make the monster loot a bit more interesting, and that stuff might actually be worth picking up and carrying around.

I don't think anyone can unravel the mystery of the loot system at this stage. I'd tried adding custom loot into areas before and it only appeared to work sometimes. Lake Stillness & The Forgotten Tower are 2 areas i definitely remember doing it. They would drop quite pricey misc items and were suppose to have some unique-rare loot - for Lake Stillness you can actually see the chest for this where the creatures have a 5% chance to drop [Artifact] bits of loot, but i've never actually see anyone with anything from it.

Anything thing to be realistic on. A new loot system would be awesome, but is it even possible to implement at this stage? Or is it going to be waste of resources to attempt something that may create more issues than it fixes? I'd be curious to know myself.

Some of your other suggestions i don't particularly have an opinion on or beyond my expertise to reply. :P

I'd be toying with the idea of maybe getting old players to post some details of their characters and implement them into the server, just to flesh the place out with new dialogue and some fresh faces. May be a nice way to immortalize their time on the server aswell. :)

General Discussion / Re: Happy 15th birthday, LotN!
« on: June 26, 2017, 06:59:12 PM »
If i remember right it became a bit of both. There were areas in the game originally based on animes, i think. I was on the server a couple times before it became Lotn but i was mainly around for Lotn after the big wipe happened. I stuck about after that but don't know much about it beforehand.

I remember the old forum getting reset years ago which was a huge loss, all the story-related threads about the server & the characters got completely lost. That wouldn't been a goldmine of nostalgia to dig up, i reckon it'd even go all the way back to TMB at that stage.

Lotn probably came out of the need to reset the server and put somewhat of an item-restriction on characters. Everyone looked like christmas trees in the early days, although that wasn't uncommon on most NWN servers back then. Personally i always found it a nightmare designing areas around high-equip characters, i think that's how undead areas always got so popular, more durability lol.

The multiplayer server listing still depended upon some Gamespy tech that was also, unfortunately, taken down and rendered it moot. You still need to use Direct Connect along with a service like NWNList to reach a server.

That sucks.  >:( Is there any hope of a server list in future? I'd have thought the community would find some way to take it over. Did NWN2 servers suffer the same fate?
