Title: Server Status & Module Updates
Post by: NWoutcast on March 22, 2009, 04:15:29 PM
I am working on getting the server running for all players. I ask for you patience in the matter. Due to technical issues the server will be up and down from now til about 2pm est at which I will need to go bed but I will be working diligently to get this problem resolved. I thank all of you in advance for you patience and understanding in the matter. I hope to have everything up and running as soon as possible.

Alright, after looking at it we are going to need a new router for the server box. Good news is I might have a free on lined up but it will take me another 24 hours to get it and get it configured. Once again I am sorry. Me and Tsu had things working then they decided randomly to not work. Im working on it and Im sorry that I have not been able to get this done faster. Please understand that I am working on it as hard and quickly as I can.

Alright here is what is going on. I am getting a new router tomorrow night at about 6pm EST. I will try and have it installed and the server running before I go to work at 9pm EST. That should fix the login issue that most of our players are having. Let me know after these times and we will see if something else is going wrong.

Alright, scheduled outage on Saturday afternoon EST for an unknown amount of time. I am doing a complete overhaul on my comp. Getting a new graphics card, hd, and a second monitor. (It was all just way to cheap to pass up!) Shouldnt be to inconvenient or down for two long. Just long enough for an XP reinstall. Thanks for the understanding!

Alright folks. Im moving and so is the server computer. Expected down time will be anywhere from 1-3 days depending on when I can get AT&T to turn it on at my new place. Im going to try and find a temporary host before the move but in case I can't I apologize and hope to see you all when I get settled in and get everything up and running. Thank you for the understanding and if you want to help move there might be a white russian in it for you ;) .

Alright folks. Update time. I am working on the server up and running at my parents house while I stay with them. I can move into my new place on Thurs/Friday this week but there is no guarantee that my internet will be set up either. So what Im going to try and do is find a temp home. The only options open to me are Tert or if I can get a hold of tsu (hey man!). Ill be updating daily so check back.

Alrighty I have some news....maybe or maybe not good news. We'll find out! Shade has stepped up to help me out with the hosting issued. Tomorrow night Ill be transferring the server and vault to him. So hopefully your gaming experience with us will not be interrupted. If all goes smoothly you should see us up on gamespy tomorrow night around 9pm est. (giving us some time to troubleshoot if there are any problems). The only other time we will have some downtime is when he gives the vault back to me sometime next week. Sorry about this guys but moving is a royal pain in the ass.

Can't direct connect; can't connect through GameSpy because it's not on the list.

Here's the target line in my shortcut in the hopes that someone can spot a blatant error I've made:
C:\NeverwinterNights\NWN\nwmain.exe +connect legacyofthenorth.game-host.org
Title: Re: Server Status & Module Updates
Post by: Jocularity on August 07, 2010, 11:38:32 PM
I think it might need to be changed to C:\NeverwinterNights\NWN\nwmain.exe +connect lotn.servegame.org

Try that.

Title: Re: Server Status & Module Updates

I'm working with Joc to resolve this. For the immediate future, you can reach the server via direct connect to

121.217.44.227:5121

This address WILL change in the future, so don't get all upset when it does. We'll post updated information when available.
Title: Re: Server Status & Module Updates

OK, here's a slightly-less-temporary fix. You can direct-connect to the LotN server at

lotn.homeip.net:5121

I'm having trouble reaching some people who have the keys to the domain, so bear with us, please.

We're back to the standard shortcut address of

Because you had the server turned off for an extended period of time, and someone loaded up another device (looks like your brothers laptop) it changed local ip addresses.  I'll fix this now.
You might want to get someone more experienced than myself, such as tsu, to set up IP leases for a longer period of time.

edit: All is working now.

On another note if there is something sitting on the keyboard IRL can you please take it off? It's holding down the ctrl button making it impossible to do anything!

Ctrl button? Crabcakes doesn't even have a keyboard plugged in!

There were no physical changes besides the modem-router itself. The Ethernet line between it and LotN is fairly long i suppose, but its the same one that was used before the new router.

During the wallaby check though, i did notice the blue cord was looped several times around a power cord. I've heard tangled cables can interfere with the signal. I dont suppose anything is better now that that is fixed?

OOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooohhhhh.... Okay, i think i worked out what might be causing the lag.  :-\

Quote from: My ISP
Current Account Usage:     12,054MB
Current Usage Allowance:    12GB, then slowed

Explains why you got as far as LotN before the lag kicked in, while i had no lag playing over my home network. No more yoochoobin for me. It should speed back up on the 23rd  :-[

I'm working on the issue.  Something tells me it's been riddled with a terrible virus since the firewall software and a lot of the network stuff are missing.

From what I gathered from talking to Kattze earlier most likely. Update your virus definitions, boot in safe mode and run deep scans. You might have a chance.

probably not.  I'd recommend installing microsoft security essentials if your current anti-virus didn't pick it up.  Crabcakes main problem was it hadn't had any security updates installed in a while along with its firewall somehow being disabled.

The virus corrupted a bunch of dll's to do with the network so I couldn't even open up network properties.  That's why you couldn't access crabcakes' files, but could still see it on the network.

Are you still having issues Path?  My connection seems to be fine.  It could be that the DNS was updating after an internet disconnect (getting new IP address) as you were trying to connect.

05/01/2011 - Kattze
 - Bounty heads are no longer sellable
 - Area updates on the North Road
 - Dire bears will no longer spawn in the wood and murder newbies
 - A difficult double spawn was spaced out in the Zhentarium Forest
 - Only one ant now spawns in the western Neverwinter forest
 - The Arcanum now sells bone wands and a few more summon tokens

05/01/2011 - Tsunami for Neutral Zone
- a horse merchant now stands on the north bank of the river, north of the city of Neverwinter.
(We do know of some problems with the horse system - buy from the guy at your own risk! Fixes forthcoming, hopefully within a couple days.)

06/10/2011 - Tsunami
- Removed the player rest menu option to leave a message for the DM's. It was a rather awkward system to use and for DM's to check, and forum posts permit much more flexibility.
- Added an automated module reload option. The game module will automatically reload (reset) every 2 real-world days. In case this proves inconvenient for a player, there is an option on the player rest menu to postpone the reload. The option only appears one hour before the reload is scheduled.

-The Alliance Arms Inn now lets you rent all 3 rooms again!
-Web should no longer bug character AC forcing the player to rejoin.
-Bounties should no longer spawn naked
-Removed rule restricting paladins from multi-classing as rogue
-Legacy of the North statue now reflects current DM staff
-Wolverines no longer spawn around camp, and their species have been culled in the region so less appear in the wood!
-Brown bears no longer spawn in the wood.  Another extinct species, way to go guys!
-Retweaked Zhentarium spawns so things other than wizards spawn again.

As a Natural Resources Management Professional, I vehemently oppose the servers actions to reduce wildlife biodiversity in the forest ecosystem.  Bears and wolverines are vital predators in a complex food web and provide distinct ecosystem services for the dominant humanoid and badgeroid populations.  The absence of these species in the woodland ecosystem will have deleterious impacts on both flora and fauna.

Okay everyone, the server will be either down or hosted from my laptop starting at 9:30am EST until 9pm EST while I have my apartment bug bombed. Everything has to be unplugged. The module will be hosted from my place while Outcast is getting his apartment bug-bombed. Unfortunately, that means direct connect shortcuts won't work in the meantime.

Also, we've had some database issues lately. We're working on fixing them. Please bear with us.

What database issues?
Title: Re: Server Status & Module Updates
Post by: Neutral_Zone on July 25, 2012, 12:59:14 AM
Basically, stuff that DMs and whatnot do keep screwing up the database, so Outcast has had to delete it (again). Also, versions we have on backup are missing the Loremaster. I don't think this is intentional.

More or less, I have to get off my arse one day and build a new database from scratch. Hopefully then everything will be fixed.

Also, the server is once again hosted by Outcast (At least, within like 5 minutes of me posting this.).

EDIT: There was a slight screwup with the servervault. We didn't lose any characters, but some of you may be loading the wrong version of a given character. If this is the case, please let us know and we will fix it promptly.

Can someone confirm the IP? Did it change?  Can't find it listed anywhere on the forums...

I could not find another host of the weekend and I need to attend a LAN for a friend of mine that is getting married. So the server will sadly be unavailable until Saturday evening.

And not for some bad news. My network adapter crapped out on me and I've been working most of the day to try and fix it. So far the driver uninstalled itself last night for some unknown reason, but the modem for my network also bit the dust last night. A tech from Comcast came out and replaced the modem but I'm worried that somehow that death of the modem resulted an a fry on my motherboard's integrated network controller. If this is the case I will need to go get a new pci adapter for the computer and I don't know when that will happen. So until further notice the server will have to be down.

**Edit** I was able to find a working PCI NIC card and the server is back up and running. The DNS address was also working last I checked. To remind you if you've forgotten the address is legacyofthenorth.dyndns.info. PLAY ON!

Due to moving server files to Outcast while Darkie takes care of moving to his new place, any character changes between now and when Outcast takes over hosting will not carry over. Once Outcast hosts, things should be in the clear again.

Thanks to NWOutcast, we have a home for the server while Darkie tends to moving and obtaining an internet connection. The new server IP is 50.179.128.250:5121 and it is safe to continue character progress again.

Please be aware, since two versions of the server vault were merged for this temporary transfer (The current one and the one before the switch to Darkie as host) you may end up with some previously deleted characters showing up in your vault again. Just make another delete request and we'll fix it up for ya as soon as we can.

Y'all ain't using the dyndns address anymore?

While I was in fixing some DNS problems bringing down the site that Tails pointed out to me, I went ahead and pointed nwn.lotn.info to 80.217.64.244.  If you get a new dynamic DNS account setup, I can redirect it to that for you, so that it can stay current.

The IP for the server changes every so often, though the last IP lasted roughly 4 months. We probably should use nwn.lotn.info more and update you when it does change, since it doesn't change TOO often, although it updated almost once a month early 2014. I'll give it a try later when the updated info gets recognized (Not working at the time of writing).

Thanks for the help!

Server status is currently offline, due to ISP related issues.
Will update regarding the issue as more information becomes available to me.
As it is now, I got less than a percent of my usual internet speed, and therefor hosting has become unsustainable.

Any questions, don't hesitate to mail me at Pontus_forslid@msn.com

Thanks.

Apologies, my ISB had detected suspicious internet trafic from my address - Which turns out, they hadn't. It was one IP down from mine that the suspicious activity came from, so it was a clerical error.
It made them set my internet speeds to below modem speeds, and I spent the night and most of today on hold to get it sorted.
Should be up and running now.

For some reason, the change refused to stay.  Every time I checked it, it had switched back to the prior address.  I got the bright idea this morning to delete and recreate it.  Let's see how well that takes.

I swear, some hosting companies only stay in business because people like me are too lazy to deal with the hassle of migrating their stuff somewhere better.

Server might experience some downtimes due to realtor checking out my apartment and taking pictures. Also because the people helping me clean the place up managing to sever my networking cable.

No idea which times it will be up and when it won't be. Right now I got the computer plugged into my modem via a 0.5 meter cable, and it needs to be at least 10 meters further away when the pictures are taken. Expect downtimes entire day tomorrow at least. Will try to get a new cable but for some reason everything closed at 3 pm today.

TLDR: Server outages expected.

The DNS client has been crashing for the past day or so on my end, upon startup. Not sure why, haven't had much time to troubleshoot it beyond doing basic like.. restart computer.. things. So.. yeah, the IP above should work, the nwn.lotn.info might not.

Zealot, I think you need to give the gnomes who run your ISP a good talking-to again.  The server's down.

Nevermind!  I rebooted my computer and everything's peachy now.  I was wondering why the Iscandar site said that LotN server was up and it had one or two players, yet my client kept timing out.  Carry on.  :)

Actually, the server was lagging horrendously at that time. There was a Jacia and Sharon, but we couldn't deal with the 10 - 20 second latency. D:

Ah.  That might explain the time-out errors, then.  And me restarting my computer when I did was just a coincidence.

The trolls that are my ISP failed again yesterday. i tried to get it up and running but it was a server-side issue, and they were closed for another 6 hours when I went to bed. Been talking to them again today, but they basically answered that they couldn't see any issues (which, they could, when I asked them deeper questions). So yeah.. My ISP is not providing me good internet at the moment, and I can only apologize for any server downtime this might bring.

Okay, so I just got word that in approximately 8 hours they'll kill the electricity to my building till around noon tomorrow. (ie, 8 hours from now till 17 hours from now.) This means that the server will be down during that time and that I'll try to restart it as soon as possible after power is restored.
At least they warned me this time..

On that note, my internet speed is down to 0.2 Mbit instead of 250. It has been reported, but they said they are unlikely to deal with it till after the weekend is over. So.. chances are, the server might be down this weekend.

Tuesday they'll investigate it. They say it will likely not be solved for another week now.
.. So yeah. I have no internet. If you want to transfer the server hosting to someone else, feel free. I won't be able to transfer character files over.

Ookay. A broken socket in the networking hub was to blame, the ISP claims. They now say it'll work, so server is back up.

I'm not seeing it neither.  If the server's back online, I'd guess that the IP# has indeed changed.

I blame your cable company, Zealot.  They seem to do this a lot.   :o

I just checked the server, and it's down

Maybe we need to send a strongly worded petition to your service provider.   ::)

So, I've checked. Server is up, The IP remains the same (83.251.64.144), and nwn.lotn.info should work as well. There's no indication that it would be down for me. I'll restart again, but I do not see why people should have issues connecting to it now.

Server was still down strangely despite running... and now it's working. Both the IP (83.251.64.144) and the redirect at nwn.lotn.info should work.

More ISP issues. Looking into changing providers. Might be a day or two before I can host the server again.

Darkie's internet is out as they try to fix some error they're having, which apparently can take a couple days to fix. I'd expect the server to return, based on what Darkie has said, in the evening on the 15th of June.

I understand; I'm in the middle of switching from Yahoo/Aabaco to DreamHost for my web service provider.  Even though I have a few screenshots to commemorate Marrelina reaching Level 25, I have to wait until things get sorted out with my website registration transfer before I can upload the pics.  :(

But it looks like LotN's back online, so yay!  The transfer went smoothly for you, I take it?  :D

I keep getting a timed-out error from my Direct Connect, and Iscandar (http://www.iscandar.ch/server.php?ip=84.217.206.126&port=5121&template=black&font=moder) is saying that the server's down too.  Has the Port been changed, perhaps?
Title: Re: Server Status & Module Updates
Post by: Darkzealot on June 22, 2017, 12:19:33 AM
It has not. The issue has been resolved now, can you attempt to connect again?

The issue arose with the new router, which was very obvious, but all the stuff with the router, like firewalls and port forwarding didn't actually cause the problem. It was some obscure fix for system registry files in windows that only now started being an issue.. .... which.. seems weird as hell, but if works it works.

Hey. 83.226.237.211 is my current Ip, I apologize for the downtime, my ISP and router and computer have all conspired against stable working IP-addresses for me.
I'm also working on starting the server up in the new NWN:EE. I'll update as I progress.

Make sure you're installing it into "My Documents/Neverwinter Nights" and not into the game's install folder. The install folder is for read-only core files, now.
