Shades of Green

Late into the night, camp was empty.  Aside from a soft breeze, and the crackling fire, it was almost silent.  Every once in a while sounds of nocturnal creatures from the forest would reach Shanra’s ears, but other than that, it was indeed quite peaceful.

Sliding down from the log-now-bench that resided by the fire, she scooted closer its warmth.  Though it was well into the night, she had no real desires to go home, since Talic wouldn’t be there.  Returning to their small haven amongst the forest was another option, but that wasn’t quite the same without him either.

Lost in her own thoughts, the fire sparked and startled her.  Shaking her head, she picked up a stick to idly poke at the burning logs.  Things were so different now.  She could hardly ask to be happier, but something kept bothering her, and she hadn’t quite put a finger to it yet.

Why am I so worried?  It couldn’t be that I’m.. no.. no that’s just silly.  Haley always tells me I worry too much.  How can I tell him, if I am?  Its my own fault...

With a sigh, she shook her head.  The same thoughts kept racing through her mind over and over, and suddenly she was glad to be alone.  Picking up her bow, she stood and wandered north into the forest.

Even the stroll turned out relatively peaceful, at least at first.  The cool breeze felt good against her skin though, and the rustling of the trees was a little more serene.  A pair of wolves darted into the bushes not too far away, sensing her presence.  She continued on, disappearing deeper into the forest.

“Shaa...nn...ra... “

Shanra’s ears perked immediately  It was no more than a whisper, but she was sure she’d heard her name.  But from where?  Standing still, she closed her eyes, halted her breathing, and listened.

“Shan... ra... “

Again, the voice called out her name. Why can’t I pinpoint it? Where is it coming from?  She kept going, hoping this was the direction of the source.

“Who are you? Show yourself!”

While there was no answer to her plea, her call was met with something else.  Slowly, her body seemed to be encompassed by an invisible aura.  Dodging a few steps backwards didn't seem to matter, for she could still feel its presence.  It was almost painful at first, but after a moment it seemed to dull, until it disappeared altogether.  Before she even had time to process everything in her mind, tears welled up in her eyes.  She recognized the aura.. she knew who the voice was.

Bug Reports / 1.69 and CEP2.1 and Appearances!
« on: July 16, 2008, 12:03:12 AM »
So I found out with my kobold that CEP 2.1 and changing appearances appears to be broken.

When I logged in, my character (which used to look like a kobold) was back to the base race of halfling.  Simple fix, you would think, but not so.

I leto'd the character, logged back in, no worky.  I had a another DM and no worky.  I changed, but after logging back in, I was back to a halfling.

So I decided to do a test.

I took the character, and loaded it in a 1.69 saved module with no haks.  The character was fine.

I made new CEP2.1 base starter area, loaded up the exact same char, and she was broken - back to a halfling.

Zodiac's raccoon seems broken too.

----

This is mostly a heads up, but if anyone has ideas, I'm keen to hear them! Or if anyone happens to see others talking about this.

Or maybe I'm out of my mind.  Tsu usually thinks I am anyway.

Bug Reports / New Version Bugs - Just for Tsu!

1. Cats on Lapilli are not skinnable.

2.  Ledger of Accounts spawns self npc.  He's cute, but I don't think she's supposed to be there.

3. Wares sold to Bruis are available for everyone to purchase back from him. (Personally I want to keep this!)  - Merin and Milmarrin does this too. Might be safe to say all merchants.. ><

4. DM Rename Tool doesn't seem to work

WHO TESTED THIS STUFF??

Oh wait, that was me. >_>  I'm only one person!

If anyone else finds things that are broken, please post them up here.

Player's Corner / A Warm Thank You!
« on: December 17, 2007, 03:09:40 AM »
What is this about, you say?  Our dear Daisy, which has done so much for us in the course of LotN has decided to step down so that she can focus more on real life. (What is that, I ask??)

I, and the DM staff would like to thank you, Miranda, for all your time and efforts you've put forth for us.  And to wish you well, in all that you do!

She has promised us she'll still be around as a player and isn't leaving us for good, so you can still find her wonderfully lurking around there!

--

Also, as many of you know, Oscar has been in the service and he hasn't been able to return to us, so he is considered retired at this point.  Shade, as well, whose done much for us in the past, has stepped down due to not having any time for both life, work, and LotN in quite some time.

I'd like to thank them both as well, for all that they've done!

I'd like to give a warm thank you to Evo1ve  for you nice two month term.  I hope he didn't terrorize people too much.

I'd also like to give a thanks to Haldadae, whose returning for her second go around as a GDM.  She just started last night.  I hope people will give her a warm welcome.

Twi'lek is still currently on her term for a while, so don't miss out.

I'd also like to thank past and possible future GDMs for their contribution.  With their help, they make the server a lot more lively!

Story Board / When Worlds Collide
« on: November 18, 2007, 09:35:51 AM »
[ I wrote this up quickly last night, mostly for Kattze.  This is what happens when two characters of mine meet, for all the wrong reasons! Veryien's accent has been lightly modified so its easier to read. ;) Darn sailors. ]

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“…An’ so tha’ be how we defeated th’ midget dwarf pirates of Amn!”  Veryien proclaimed, slapping the top of the bar with his palm to emphasize the point.  Laughter spread all around from sailors drinking merrily from their free mugs.  Silas grumbled from behind the bar whilst serving another round of drinks.  Despite his grumbling, the gruffly dwarf couldn’t help but grin at the numerous amount of customers he had tonight.
Chuckling, Veryien tossed some more gold on the counter.  Wild copper hair threatened to displace the very nature of his eyes, so he ran a hand through his hair in order to see.  Poorly rewarded for his efforts, the hair soon fell back into place in a few seconds later.
“Hafta git back ta me ship, mates.  Pleasure, as always!” No sooner did he wave lazily then shouts of farewell met him in return.  Standing, he leaned across the bar towards the dwarven bartender.  “Ye take care of ‘em, Silas, ye hear?”
“So long as ye be paying, lad!”  Laughing, he gave the dwarf a thumbs up, and turned to exit the Jack and Sabre.   Few steps did he make however, before he noticed the oddest sight of all standing before him.  Raising both eyebrows out of questioning curiosity, he just stared at the petite, thin Elven figure presented before him.
This was no ordinary elf,  for she was literally green from head to toe.  Dark green hair accentuated emerald colored eyes upon pale peach skin.  Golden trim adorned her skin tight green jumpsuit, and a elven cloak was clasped about her shoulders.  What might even more intriguing, however, was the emerald-topped staff the haughty elf held in her hand.  A green glowing aura surrounded her, emanating from the staff, which by this time, the elf had planted into the ground.
“Are you Veryien?” Raising her chin a little, her eyes trailed over him, regarding every aspect she could in detail.  Realizing his mouth hung open in a strange sense of awe, he had to close it and swallow before he could respond.
“Aye, tha’ be me.  Wha’ kin I do fer ye, lass?”  Patrons roared with laughter and chatter behind him, so he took a few steps towards her to close the distance with a grin spread upon his lips..  His thick sailor accent didn’t seem to phase the green clad elf at all.  Apparently neither did his grin, for she didn’t return it.
Now the elf smiled, but it was near cold enough to send a chill down his spine. “A mutual friend of ours sent me.  You might know her by the name of Haley.”  She paused, gauging his reaction before continuing.  “She has some words she wanted to share with you.”
 Veryien’s grin quickly faded at the mention of the name, and he eyed the woman before him more seriousness.  “Tha’ may be so, lass.  Ye have th’ advantage of me though. I dun even know yer name.”
Entirely amused, the green-haired elf laughed.  “My name is Shanra.  I don’t need to hear it from you.  Haley cares for you, so I had to promise her I wouldn’t kill you, even though you threw her in prison.” Deep red lips smiled. “She wanted you to know she was always honest with you, and never expected more than what you two experienced together.”
Veryien scratched his chin, silent for a while.  No amount of time in the world would be enough to form the perfect words for what he was about to say. “I be sorry, lass. I cared fer Haley, but I canna say I loved her at all.  An’ I canna deny wha’ I saw her do, or th’ people she murdered. If ye happen ta see her, tell her I hope she kin find happiness somewhere, aye?”
Time stood still.
A matter of moments seemed to flash by in seconds.  A green blur closed the distance between, a blade quickly revealing itself within the woman’s palm.  Reacting was all but impossible before the blade met his gut.  Standing in shock, the only thing he could focus was Shanra’s amused smile. His choking words produced sputter, and the tavern was too loud for anyone else to hear.
Leaning in, the woman whispered in his ear.  The cold chill of her content, amused voice lured him to his fate. “I’ll be sure to tell her.”  The green elf twisted the dagger ever so slightly and Veryien cried out in pain.  Laughter again rose from her lips, before she revealed the rest. “Don’t worry, this won’t kill you. I did promise her after all.  The poison should make you suffer a good long while, however.”
Retching the blade free, she pushed him away as she spun on her heels, and soon departed the place.  Stumbling backwards, he landed against a barstool, knocking it over.  Blood spewed forth from his gut, despite clutching it tightly with his hand.  Weakness soon took him, and his legs threatened to collapse.  Sliding down the side of the bar, the last thing he would hear was that blasted dwarf shouting his name as his world disappeared around him.
I be sorry, Raven. I couldna keep me promise afta all.
Player's Corner / Updates Updates Updates
« on: November 12, 2007, 04:59:29 PM »
I thought I'd post it just to give a heads up to everyone whose not on the building staff just what's going on, or what they might expect soon!
Roid's been a changing!  The city is burning, citizen's in riot.  Ships have been trying to evacuate everyone out of the area.  So on that note:
- Many of your favorite merchants may still be around!  Roy managed to salvage his secret cream tart (and other!) recipes, and has opened up shop in Neverwinter.
- Wondering where to find those snazzy new clothes?  Try Elegant Essentials!  Tailoring Models were donated mysteriously.  I wonder if that was a hint?
- There is a new bathhouse in NWC.  Do you still stink?  Go take a bath today!
- There are whispers of a Hall of Justice and a special tower in Neverwinter, but you'll just have to wait and see!  Coming soon!
- Torin has made us something special, and you can't help but miss it when you log in!  Also coming soon.  I just want to say I love it.
And this is only a few.  Be sure to check the Update sign in the game to see whatever latest things have been update.  Kattze really does update it!
Oh, since its the beginning of the week, have a wonderful week everyone.
EDIT:  This might be handy.  For more information see Kattze's thread here. Clicky.
Twi'lek has just started her GDM term, so I'm pretty sure she's going to be around to spice things up and throw some curve balls around!  I hope everyone can welcome her, and have some fun.
Evolve is still around to make sure and kill every last one of you, and Haldadae will be joining in a few weeks to make your heads spin off.
Let's have some parties, guys!
Story Board / Dark Thunder and Fury
« on: October 22, 2007, 07:36:53 AM »
All the events listed below are connected, though your characters may not realize it at the time.  These were all posted in the information thread, but I'm reposting here, and adding any related to this thread only.
================
The Blade have suffered some losses recently. 7 Men have died and another 20 bedridden but expected to live after a sudden illness sweapt through the keep.
Upon further investigation it appears that several cases of food supplies were poisoned. When they attempted to question the guard on duty in the storeroom that night they found he was missing. He was later found inside one of the storecrates after they were all checked for further contaimination. His cause of death is somewhat of a mystery as it appears no weapons were used. The only mark on him was an ugly bruise over his heart.
None of the guards reported seeing or hearing anything usual on the night the poisoning and murder took place, and as of now the investigation as at a dead end. It is unknown at this time who was behind the deed, but the Blade have sworn justice for those whos lives were lost.
===============
A loud booming noise and flash of firely light just north of camp left the supply oxen and horses mere chars of flesh. The culprit was not seen and quickly faded into darkness.
Business at camp will mostly likely be slow for a short time because of this.
===============
Regulars approaching the Last Inn will find the tavern doors and windows boarded up. Approaching closer one would feel a cold chill creep up their spine and a sense of wrongness fill their senses. Hooded and cloaked figures can be seen entering and leaving the tavern at all hours and with the turn of night lights can be seen through the cracks of the boarded windows.
Finally, the sign hanging outside the tavern has the word "Windfall" burnt over the previous title.
Player's Corner / Really random name
« on: September 28, 2007, 06:34:53 AM »
While making a new character, I kept hitting the random name generator.  It came up with this name seen below. A first.  I wonder if it means I should play a dragon or something??  Really bizarre. First time I've seen something -that- random.
General Discussion / DND, PNP Style, 4e?
« on: September 17, 2007, 12:57:30 AM »
For anyone who plays pen and paper DnD, I thought this might be an interesting link.
http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=54367
Gives some info on what to expect in the 4th edition game rules for DnD.
I'm a bit disappointed from looking over some of the sources and things, that they seem to be delving towards making it closer to video game rules, or things that are easier to translate into video games.
I like it so much because it ISN'T a video game.
Although I do agree some things could be made simpler.
I saw this and just had to share with anything who hadn't seen it or heard it. I must say I really like the music.  And the video is pretty artistic too.
